Arranging Flowers For Dummies

Have you been intimidated by the idea of collecting flowers but faced failure even before buying flowers? Arranging flowers is not so difficult with a little advice and some great ideas! Displaying your flowers can be fun, especially when you get creative in an elegant yet simple way.

The first thing to do is find basic containers for your fresh cut flowers. Don't limit yourself to the typical glass vase, but expand your creativity and start looking around. An old grandma's water cup gives a great rustic look, or a sterling silver jug for a more traditional look. Simple candle holders with a single flower at each place setting during your dinner party add a touch of elegance. Old cans and bottles can be totally nostalgic. The ideas are endless without the expense of buying a vase. Choosing large-headed flowers such as lilies, orchids, or sunflowers placed individually in an all-lined container looks very elegant.

Using old teapots, mugs, or even old jam jars can create a conversation starter. Be sure to cut the stems so that the flower heads come through the top of the container. Stack glassware or jars in baskets for a unique fall or spring look.

If you have a matching vase but no color, try wrapping it in ribbon, string, or a scarf. This adds beautiful visual interest and draws the eye away from the vase. You can even stick the vase in a decorative gift bag to match your theme or decor.

It's much easier to color coordinate flowers once you have the vase design set. Another cool but simple idea is to cover the outside of the vase with double-sided tape. Then glue the large leaves vertically all around. Some house leaves look great due to their odd markings, coloring or sheen. If you don't have papers, wrap plain string or colored paper around the jars. Adding beads or shells can give an ethnic look. Satin ribbon or even honeysuckle vines will work. Go where your interests lie.

If all of that isn't easy enough for you or you're a bit dire with your demo, a great way to display flowers is to cut off individual flower heads and float them in

Low water tray. Adding small floating candles is very romantic and brings peace and tranquility to your arrangement and your home.

A floral arrangement isn't something you can really go wrong if the flowers you love are mixed in with the people you love. Whether the arrangement is for your home or elsewhere, take advantage of your creativity and the time you spent creating it. Stop and smell the flowers is a cliché we've all heard but it's true! In this fast-paced world, take the time to appreciate the scents, beauty and diversity of flowers.
